Though I do enjoy critique and will take yours into account to make the post better, I've helped a good amount of people with this post without changing it at all from the time it was posted. I always set my hotkey to dpad down, because that's not used in 98% of the games I play, but it can be set to anything. It's not meant so much to read for those, rather as a copy/paste or direct type kinda deal.Īnd to clarify, screenshotting is dependent on your hotkey, so changing your hotkey will help with that. One of the reasons it's long is the code boxes for the xml files that's referenced in there. I've used a dualshock 4 controller, a bluetooth NES controller, a switch pro controller, and a generic xbox controller with batocera, and regardless of what they read as to the system, they always go through the same process with the controller config in the batocera menu, which lines up with a generic xbox input natively. That said, I want you to know that no matter what controller is plugged into batocera, you will have to configure it to work the same way as a generic xbox style controller (as far as I've seen). It does show it as a "switch" controller when I plug it in. This is meant for a USB n64 controller, that I bought from Amazon from a generic brand. I'll keep that in mind though, thank you for the critique.

I've tried to split it up per option at least (as I give two options) with some dashes.

I don't really know how to do all of that on Reddit, I'm a pretty new user to the site itself. The post I'm referring to is 'dmelonman' user's post in this thread: How do I disable the screenshot hotkey? I ask because I did manage to find a weird workaround for this, but actually found out that using L2 with that config setup causes me to constantly take screenshots of the current frame for some reason, which I can't figure out for the life of me how to disable this functionality (either if this is Batocera taking screenshots, or Retroarch).

Is there some way to actually be able to configure it in a more sane manner? This being noted, how do you actually configure Batocera to use an N64 controller by default? The button layout in comparison just doesn't make since the majority of the buttons are made for like a PS4 or Wii U style controller.

My N64 controller, a USB one from Amazon, shows up as some kind of weird 'Switch' controller. The one thing I really don't like in Batocera is how different the input assignment is compared to vanilla Retroarch.
